Bruxism and Your Smile

Posted .

Have you ever had an oral exam to look for bruxism? If you weren’t aware, bruxism is a condition often caused unconsciously involving the grinding of one’s teeth, often to the detriment of their oral health. Bruxism can also disturb your sleep habits, which can cause an increase in exhaustion and a sense of always being tired due to a lack of deep sleep at nights.

One of the most prevalent symptoms of bruxism is pain and discomfort. When you wake up each day, you may feel a slight uneasiness in your jaw or mouth and gums if teeth grinding has occurred. This is sometimes due to an increase in tooth sensitivity.

Physical harm to your mouth can also arise from bruxism. Over time, your teeth can grind down and whittle away. This is in large part to the continuous wear they receive. They may also look flat or dull, or look very worn. Tissue damage to your cheeks and cracked or chipped teeth may also be present due to bruxism. If you think you may have bruxism, come visit us.
