How Do I Stop My Overeating Habits?

Posted .

Are you one who tends to overeat, even when the holidays have come and gone? If so, you need to be careful. Overeating not only affects your physical health, but it also affects your smile. This is because overeating usually means your teeth are exposed to food for long periods of time. If the foods are sugary and acidic, the chemicals can attack your teeth and cause problems. So, it’s better to stop your overeating habits altogether. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Maria Sese, has some tips and information.

First, try to only eat when you’re hungry. This is pretty self-explanatory. When you’re hungry, eat. When you’re not, don’t. However, sometimes the body thinks it needs food when we feel sad or bored or when we are thirsty. So, it’s important to ask yourself if you’re truly hungry before you raid the refrigerator.

Second, eat fatty foods. Fatty foods send a signal to the body that makes it feel satisfied. This can help you avoid overeating because once you’re satisfied, you won’t feel like you need more food. So, try to eat the fatty foods first. This is also beneficial because these foods take time to digest, so you should feel fuller longer.

Third, don’t starve yourself. If you’re extremely hungry, you likely feel like you can eat the entire pantry. This can make you overeat. So, it’s best to avoid this situation altogether by keeping a granola bar or apple in your bag and eating them when you feel you are hungry.
